Both Jun Hua and Yi Yin had been to Shanglin Park countless times, and the so-called wandering around naturally didn’t mean to be near the main palace. If that were the case, it would be no different from taking a walk, and Jun Hua wouldn’t need Yi Yin to accompany him.

Just now, Jun Hua had a dream, and he dreamed of the long-lost Huaixi. This was the first time since Huaixi had said goodbye to him back then.

And at Jun Hua’s feet, there was a majestic big white tiger lying on the ground, tall and with smooth fur. The two little dumplings seemed to like the big white tiger very much and stretched out their hands towards it desperately, causing Huaixi to be so busy that he could barely hold them.
The big white tiger also seemed to like the two little dumplings very much. He raised his eyes and looked at them but remained motionless obediently.
Seeing that the two little dumplings were about to cry because their little short hands couldn’t touch the big white tiger, Jun Hua laughed happily. He was about to get closer and see the scene in front of him more clearly, but he was awakened by Tuantuan and Yuanyuan. Naturally, he was quite upset.
Not long after, Wei Chongrong came back from the court and saw that the adult one and the little ones were both angry, so he asked curiously what happened.
Jun Hua curled his lips and briefly explained the whole story. After speaking, he sighed regretfully: “It’s all the fault of Tuantuan and Yuanyuan. If they hadn’t made so much noise, I would have been able to see more clearly. I don’t know when the next time I dream of them will be.”
Tuantuan and Yuanyuan were too young to understand Jun Hua’s words, but they could instinctively feel that their daddy was complaining about them to their father, so they both stretched out their hands towards Wei Chongrong and kept calling “Father”, trying to tell him of their grievances.
Wei Chongrong was taken aback, and then laughed loudly. He picked up one son with one arm and the other with the other, kissed them on both cheeks and then smiled: “Little Monkey, Tuantuan, Yuanyuan and I are in front of you, what else do you want to see…”
“Little Monkey…” Tuantuan murmured, repeating Wei Chongrong’s words, and poked Jun Hua’s face with his finger.
Jun Hua was startled, not caring about his son’s actions. After a moment, he suddenly snapped out of it, “Brother Rong, let’s take Tuantuan and Yuanyuan to play with Jiaojiao.” Jiaojiao was the name of the big white tiger raised in the imperial garden.
In the imperial garden, Jiaojiao, who had rarely been out of the cage lately, happily rolled on the grass a few times and then obediently sat down in place.
Immediately afterwards, Tuantuan and Yuanyuan rushed over with a scream and had a lot of fun playing with the obedient big white tiger.
Wei Chongrong put his arms around Jun Hua and asked with a smile: “Is the scene you saw in your dream like this?”
Jun Hua smiled without saying a word, feeling that it couldn’t be more perfect.

I feel like a clown for finishing this in less than a week… I should have paced myself while reading but I was too curious to see what happens. What am I supposed to do now? Ugh 🙄
I understand this story might not be for everyone but it’s certainly not bad. In fact, the author avoided many of the usual traps of rebirth stories. This was definitely good enough to make me care about most of the characters we met and experience a multitude of emotions while reading. If I were to nitpick, I would count two problems:
The first is about mentioning many many many names without meeting the actual characters, thus making it difficult to remember them. Now, period stories usually feature a lot of characters so the number is not a problem per se. The issue was that the author mentioned them but never showed them, eg the Shangguan family. And because we never saw them interact with the main characters, we had no way to connect their names with anything tangible.
The second is about the overall pacing. Obviously, when the story stretches in many decades, there will be several time skips. That’s to be expected. However, the author chose to mention some important events in one or two sentences while spending time on other descriptions of more “mundane events”. If it were me, I would do the opposite but that’s the author’s prerogative after all.
Just to be clear, in my mind this has little to do with the issue of who’s the protagonist, Wei Zhao or Wei Chongrong. The author made it very clear from the start that Wei Chongrong was the protagonist, he was the one who was reborn, and it was his behaviour that worked as a catalyst to change other people’s fates. Of course, because Wei Chongrong was reborn as a toddler, we couldn’t expect him to take part in palace intrigue schemes. Thus, Wei Zhao had to be the one to make some moves. Would I like to see more of Wei Zhao during the second part of the story? Absolutely! Do I feel bamboozled about whose story I read? Certainly not.
My dear YunYun, you have once more outdone yourself! This was NOT an easy novel to translate. Just keeping up with the similar names and similar titles must have been a headache… But you delivered an excellent project once more! I hope you take some time to rest and recharge; you deserve it after working so hard.

There is something addictive about this novel 🙂 I can’t believe I spent four months tinkering with it and I still don’t feel tired of it. It was like living in the company of Wei Zhao, Wei Chongrong, Jun Hua and the others, and I got so attached to them that… the only ones I really hated were Helian Zhuo and Wei Lan, everyone else I could understand to some extent.
Ah ah, you’re right, there are so many characters 🙂 🙂 I jsut went with the flow when reading and was drawing family trees when translating. I wanted to post a list of characters but eventualy gave up because there would be too many spoilers. I think the author’s intention was that those who are important will be memorable and those who are not are there just to create the atmosphere 🙂
I complteley agree with you on the Shangguan family! I would love to know more about them. There is a character from the Shangguan family in the sequel, there is not much about him but what is said about him is quite insightful to the whole family (he actually falls in love with and marries Wei Chongrong’s daughter and becomes a loyal minister of Wei Qian, so the families unite in the end, you can say :))
I’m really kinda getting burnt out after translating for so long and so much, not this story but all the stories, I am translating non-stop for more than a year. I wish I was not so obsessive and could pace it better, I tell myself every time I will translate a little and then rest – but in the end I can’t stop and spend all my time doing it. But I’m always like this, when I love something, I spend all my time doing it. When I stop loving it, I won’t spare ten minutes for it 🙁 🙁
I think you’re 100% right for not sharing the detailed family trees because there are certain relationships, even beyond the big twists, which are more interesting to discover as you read. These facts may have been implied in some earlier chapters but I definitely had “ah ha!” moments when they were explicitly mentioned.

I must say this book really surprised me, I initially wasn’t expecting much going into it but it’s such a unique rebirth story. It was just so so good! I couldn’t stop reading unless I absolutely had to(real life meddling with my reading schedule). The storyline was so interesting there’s never a moment that I felt bored, also it was really unpredictable. I enjoy political novels quite a lot so the political storyline was a bonus for me. I liked that it was centered more around power struggles and plotting within the family. Even though there were a lot of people and titles to remember I got used to it after a while. At first I wasn’t sure I would enjoy having to watch the mc grow from such a young age but it was so amazing to watch a character like Wei Zhao through his eyes and then get to see Wei Chongrong grow into the man he is. Their father-son relationship was one of the highlights for me. Their trust in each other just showed how much they both needed and relied on each other. Wei Zhao sticking up for his son against his entire family regardless of his origin was such a beautiful moment. I like that the plot changed so drastically just because of Wei Zhao remaining alive, it really showed how the absence of his character in the previous life affected so many things and led to more tragedies. I’m glad everyone(that I liked) got a happy ending. My only wish is that we should have gotten more of Wei Zhao and HQ. I loved their relationship so much and I’d squeal anytime they in a scene together. I hated that their scenes together were so short but I was still happy to have those breadcrumbs!

When I translated this story, I hoped that there would be people who would see in it the same things that I did and would fall in love with those things. You said exactly everything I felt when reading this story! It was the same for me! I loved every scene with Wei Zhao, his siffering was unbearable to watch but his victories made me feel so good! I know, I know, I wished so much there was more about him and HQY, I would be happy with anything! But they don’t even have a single scene in the sequel, just saying that they live together after wei Zhao abdicated, so they are happy, I think 🙂
I also loved very much the plot with the Jun Hua from the original world, it was probably my favourite plot in the second half of the story, so happy that he also had a second chance and got his Yi Yin 🙂

at first, i thought i won’t last until the end too 🤣 but although the warring and battles weren’t too detailed. some things were also not concluded in a satisfying scenes, ex. the execution of helian zhuo, i would love to see it 😏
but the court intrigues are fascinating 😌👌 like i said before, it made me ignore the issues that i usually avoid in a story.
in fact, one of the things that i love in bl story is… the whipped and loving husbands. ohohoh 🤭 as long as they are exist, then i’m happy to read.
glad that huaixi finally has his own family too in his own world 😘 hopefully all will go well in the future. i mean, wei yang won’t poisoned yiyin or make him in danger anymore.
let’s all hope that the author will write wei zhao and qingyang’s honeymoon travel soon 🙏 even if it’s just for a couple extra chapters to satisfy the readers.

I myself don’t quite understand why I liked this story so much. I think it it a book like this, either it hooks you or leaves you indifferent, but if it hooks you, it’s for real. I spent really a lot of time translating it, but it was also a very enjoyable time 🙂

I have read all the way through this in few days and while I haven’t commented (I was mostly reading at work ehe) I have appreciated your translation and this entire story so so much. This ending was also really a delight, I was so happy for the original Jun Hua, it kept bothering me he was only able to look all the time before. I just want to give all of them much happiness ;; Wei Zhao was my absolute favourite and I’m really glad after all that suffering he was able to go on and did so well too. I only wish there was more about him and Huo Qingyang… I mean I loved most of the characters and cried a lot (especially for Wei Ming and his children). Few chapters ago I also skimmed the sequel with MTL and it really does seem dramatic lol. Did not quite expect the story would enter into such initial setting… But gave up pretty fast because I am unable to even understand who is being talked about in MTL.
I think putting together *some* character list and small family tree could be helpful for new readers that get confused at the beginning but it’s probably hard to find the line before it turns into spoiler. Maybe just the character list with their (nonspoilery) titles since with them getting once mentioned by one and then the other…
I was definitely constantly getting confused about the relationships so I went ahead and drew a family tree with titles and notes myself just so I could be like “ohhh, that’s who this person is…” but then at some point there were so many reveals it started getting too complicated to browse as well lol.

I started doing the list of the characters many times but then I didn’t already remember what was revealed in what chapter, so I was confused what were the spoilers. And there are really too many characters, I didn’t even touch the Shangguans in that list, and Wei Su’s history…
