This was a very interesting read. I liked how Fu Zhiyu didn’t go for some kind of complex revenge scheme in his second life, he just wanted to have a calm life with the people he cared about. He could even acknowledge that he wasn’t cut out to be the Emperor and back off, instead of trying to ascend and use his experience the second time. I also appreciate how the author didn’t shy away from showing the “trauma” of the past. Xie Ke didn’t magically change, he was still struggling with guilt and fear of abandonment. This was way more “emotionally mature” than the average danmei.

That’s one of very few wife chasing crematoriums that made me feel that the gong suffered enough. Actually, it was what I felt when reading it for the first time. When translating, I felt quite depressed because of Xie Ke’s suffering. At least they did have their HE 🙂 🙂

Since I re-read this story so many times when translating it, it’s difficult for me to remember the fresh emotions I felt when reading it for the first time. I think when I read it for the first time, I felt that everything was perfect and the ML was forgiven just at the right moment.
When translating it and knowing how much the ML has to suffer, I found it very painful and frustrating, and my heart was breaking for him.
But at the same time – what should the MC have done? He didn’t love the ML anymore. Should he have been with the ML just to please the ML? When he was capable of loving again, he and the ML reunited.
I think the author doesn’t accentuate it but the MC has PTSD/depression from his previous life. It is incredibly exhausting to love someone with all your heart for ten years and get disappointed again and again. And then the final blow was to learn that Xie Ke was an actor and just played with him. When the author writes that Zhiyu’s feelings are not as intense as they used to be, it’s just that – his psyche is damaged and now he loves to the extent he can. It is not a question of Xie Ke’s guilt, it’s just a tragedy of both of them. And Zhiyu does love him and likely with time they will fit more and more perfectly with each other.

Their journey gave me ideas of how the author portrayed how broken respect and trust cannot be forgiven by apologizing. It only be slowly earned through time. This story really can reflect a redflagged ML to a greenflag ML. I’m glad that MC tried to slowly accept him and not gradually forgive him. Im so glad I read this till the end❤️❤️❤️

this is truly bittersweet, and it made me think of all the other novels where I felt the ML didn’t get enough punishment. and this was the reverse of that kind of I say kind of because I feel most of it was deserved. I wish it took less time, but I digress. it was a bit refreshing, but heartbreaking.

I binged this is 3 days? T-T I enjoy your translation alot, its easy to understand esp when it got to the world conscious part!
out of the few groveling/angsty novel’s I’ve read, I’d say this one was one that focused on the journey of both of the mc’s lives and not really much on the groveling. I feel this way bcs the groveling, was XK’s way of showing his growth and love for ZY and not much of a repentance(?). I came for the grovel but stayed for their growth and I truly enjoyed seeing how ZY came to terms with what has happened and how they both learned to except the past and think about the present.
although I felt that their relationship in the ending could have been more shown, I guess it’s for them to journey through it and not for me. 🤪🫣 I know ZY will continue to grow and love XK more, and time will only tell for them!
the surprising thing was the world building (actors and the like), I did not expect that kind of background and was honestly pleasantly surprised by how fresh the idea was.

Yes, it’s one story where I wouldn’t mind a few more “happy ever after” extras 🙂 But I guess it’s bettern to end when readers still want more than when readers are fed up 🙂 🙂
For a long while, I considered it the cruelest crematorium out there. Then I read Pain Fetish, and it took the first place (but Pain Fetish demands a completely masochistic mood to read). Buddha-like Rebirth was pretty painful to translate because I already knew that Xie Ke didn’t have any hope in this life, and no matter what he did, it would be in vain. But I’m glad I translated it, and I’m really happy you liked it 🙂 🙂
Can’t believe I finally finished it. I had to be honest, I kinda lost the drive when Zhiyu moved to Jiangnan prior to him actively developing it. Probably because I got into some anime at that time (Yuzuki-san siblings, My boss is goofy, Omnipotent Saints S2, Apothecary Diaries, etc). Tbh, I am surprised by the fast pace picked up when Zhiyu’s become active King of Jiangnan 😅. Kinda regret putting it aside without finishing it first before bingeing those animes lol.
After Yuzuki-san siblings, I am sensitive and very much prone to water works.. Zhiyu meeting his reincarnated mother made me cried till snorts and bubbles. Mingdao is forever destined to be meet at his “cutest” phase I guess. I wonder if Zhiyu’s melon still continue thriving (since it got much bigger blood supply initially)? A-ahhh, I am going to miss this book. I also found it ironic that Zhiyu from first world to the current him seems to be evolving into a version that suit himself best, since he is now living as immortal with metal systems.
“Xie Ke, I just want to tell you that we started again, not because I forgot the past, but because I still remember and I don’t think it matters anymore. The same goes for you. You don’t have to be careful about the past. Sometimes I get angry. It’s normal. Couples who are in love will also get angry. You don’t have to be so scared anymore. I won’t leave you again.”
I really love author with how well written they did weaving Zhiyu and Xie Ke’s story from the beginning till Zhiyu uttered above sentences! Just like Zhiyu traumatised by his first world, author didn’t forget to address Xie Ke that was traumatised by his second world. Kudos. Probably because it intricacy, they can’t afford to develop more of the side characters.. A bit a pity since they had many good side characters. Well, you gain some and lose some. Thank you for completing this project and making we able to enjoy it YunYun~ 💕. Good work 💐.
I’m really happy you finished this story!!! When I read it first, I was so much pro-Zhiyu that I totally enjoyed all the chapters without Xie Ke. But when I was translating it… I felt so much pain for Xie Ke. I really had to make myself keep on going through those chapters. I felt so drained by the time I reached the happier parts 🙂 🙂

Tbh I really love how the author got me invested in the leads almost immediately. Read enough of similar novels to know that XK probably had some backstory unlike some of the other MLs of this genre- and honestly one of the few where it really is just bad fate vs actually scumminess (which I have learned to drop b/c I can’t stand them) *sigh*. It’s like being given a test without knowing the rules, and then the system crashed but you’re trying to get 100% off a random set of rules that don’t apply anymore… only, you don’t know that. But even worse, because he thought he could easily fix everything XPPP Idjit.
